Antoniou Ioannis |
Ioannis Antoniou investigated several aspects of Complex Systems together with Ilya Prigogine (Nobel Prize 1977) at the Solvay Institutes, Brussels. Since 2001, he is teaching Information Theory, Knowledge Processing, Modeling of Complex Systems and Chaos, Quantum Computation at the School of Mathematics and Statistics, since 2012, at the School of Biology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He is co-founder and Director of the Masters Program on "Complex Systems and Networks" (2014-2022). Ioannis Antoniou has published more than 200 papers, has co-edited 11 books, has supervised 6 PhD Theses and 17 Masters Theses, has coordinated 14 Projects and participated in 7 projects. He has served as Deputy Director of the International Solvay Institutes of Physics and Chemistry in Brussels (1994-2003), as Head of the Mathematics Department of the AUTH (2007-2009) and as a Member of the Scientific Council of the International Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR), Dubna, Russia (2001-2014). Ioannis Antoniou is Professor Honoris Causa of Lomonosov Moscow State University and St. Petersburg State University. He was awarded the Kapitza Medal of Russian Academy, the De Donder Prize from the Royal Academy of Belgium (1991-1993), the Prigogine Price (2008) and the Excellency Price from the Aristotle University (2009). Ioannis Antoniou has served as Vice-President of the Hellenic Mathematical Society (2013-2015) and is co-founder and member of the Administrative Council of the Center for Aristotelic Studies (2012-present) and served as co-founder and Deputy Director of the Semantic Web Unit of the Aristotle University (2012-2014). |

Bamidis Panagiotis |
Panayotis Bamidis is Associate Professor in the School of Medicine of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He graduated from the Physics Department of Aristotle University, obtained his PhD from the Open University, UK on Functional Brain Imaging. and worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Physiological Sciences, Medical School, University of Newcastle, UK. Professor Bamidis has published more than 150 papers, has served as reviewer in 12 Journals and as Guest editor in 10 special issues. He has taught in several Universities in Greece and worldwide, has coordinated several EU Projects and has co-organized many International and National Conferences and Workshops. Panayotis Bamidis has also served as member of several scientific committes and has received the Excellency Price of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki as a young Researcher in 2009. |

Alexandra Bekiari is Assistant Professor in Pedagogy at the Department of Physical Education and Sport Science, University of Thessaly, Greece. Bratsas Charalampos  |
Dr. Charalampos Bratsas is teaching in the School of Mathematics of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, founder and President of the Greek Chapter of the Open Knowledge Foundation and coordinator of Greek DBPedia. He teaches in the Departments of Mathematics, Journalism, Biology and Geology and on the Inter-Faculty Master Program on Complex Systems and Networks in AUTH. Solutions Architect-Researcher in the ICT sector, Adjunct Lecturer at the Department of Electrical Engineering-Western Macedonia University of Applied Sciences and Senior Research Fellow at the School of Mathematics-Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Kostas holds a BSc, MSc and PhD in Physics (Quantum Information and Computation) from the School of Physics-Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He worked as a Visiting Scientist at the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics-Cambridge University, UK and the Czech Technical University in Prague, Czech Republic, and he taught at the Department of Informatics & Telecommunications Engineering-University of Western Macedonia. Chintiroglou Chariton Sarl |
Chariton Charles Chintiroglou is a professor at the School of Biology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh), where he completed his graduate and postgraduate studies. He then spent a few years as research fellow in France, Great Britain and the Netherlands. His research activity is focused on Marine Biology – Ecology- Zoogeography, Ecology of Animal Bahaviour (Ethology) and Biodiversity. He has published more than 80 scientific articles in international journals and contributed more than 150 papers in national and international conference proceedings. He lectures the graduate (Zoology, Marine Biology, Animal Behaviour, Biodiversity) and postgraduate students of the School of Biology of AUTh. He has supervised about 50 diploma theses, 25 master theses and three doctor dissertations, while he has been coordinating several research programs. He has been an invited speaker in a number of institutions as the Open University of the Municipality of Thessaloniki, and other societies and associations. He has authored or co-authored five (5) books. Two of those are translations of Biodiversity books, whereas he recently co-authored a book with the title “Happy Birthday, Darwin”, a book about a simplified scientific narration between two scientists, a biologist and a geologist, on Darwin and Darwinism. In recent years he has been active on matters of biopolitics and sustainable development, with the intention to publish the attended material. He was recently elected as Dean of the School of Sciences of AUTh and has also served as Chairman of scientific societies (Hellenic Zoological Society) and Head of the School of Biology (AUTh). |

Dr Glaveli holds a degree in International and European Economic studies from the Athens University of Economics and Business, the MBA degree from the University of Birmingham in UK and two PhDs in Management. Iglezakis Ioannis  |
Ioannis Iglezakis is Associate Professor of Law & Informatics at the Faculty of Law in the Aristotle University in Thessaloniki (Greece) and Attorney-at-law at the Thessaloniki Bar Association. He graduated from the Faculty of Law of Aristotle University (Thessaloniki) in 1987. Kallimanis Athanasios  |
Athanasios Kallimanis, biologist, is Associate Professor in the Department of Ecology of the School of Biology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. In the past he served as a member of faculty in the School of Environmental and Natural Resources Management of the University of Patras. Karagiannis Vassilios  |
Vassilios Karagiannis graduated from the Mathematics Department of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and obtained his Ph.D. in Mathematics from the Mathematics Department of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. During his doctoral dissertation he solved previously unsolved statistical experimental design problems, in a constructive and exact way, using graph theoretic methods. Karakostas Theodoros  |
Theodore Karacostas is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Meteorology and Climatology, School of Geology, of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He has been the Head of the Department for ten (10) years and the Head of the Graduate School in Meteorology, Climatology and Atmospheric Environment for seven (7) years. He has been the Vice President of the Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki Research Committee, from 2010 to 2015. Moreover, he had designed the Greek National Hail Suppression project and he was the Scientific Director of it (Ministry of Agriculture, Greece). He pursued his undergraduate studies (B.Sc. with honours) at the Department of Mathematics of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, while his graduate studies (M.Sc. and Ph.D., both with honours) at the Department of Atmospheric Science of the University of Wyoming, U.S.A., in the field of Dynamic Meteorology, Cloud Physics and Weather Modification. Professor Karacostas has published extensively and has participated in and has organized numerous Conferences and Workshops, worldwide. In addition, he has coordinated several National and European research projects on weather modification, synoptic and dynamic meteorology, extreme weather events, modeling and forecasting, agricultural meteorology, cloud physics, wind energy and climatic changes. Theodore Karacostas was supported by several fellowships and was invited many times by the World Meteorological Organization and has served as a national, EU and International expert and reviewer in Committees. Moreover, he is Editor in three international publishing companies (Springer, Elsevier and Hindawi), reviewer in more than twenty five international journals on Atmospheric Sciences, Meteorology, Climatology, Environmental Fluid Mechanics, etc., and a member of several local, National and international Societies and Committees. Katragkou Eleni  |
Eleni Katragkou is Assistant Professor at the Department of Meteorology and Climatology, School of Geology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She graduated from AUTH, School of Physics in 1998 and the MSc program in Environmental Physics two years later. She completed her PhD studies at the University of Heidelberg, specializing in Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics. Her research now focuses on physical climatology and regional climate modeling. She is supporting the coordination of the European Regional Climate Program EURO-CORDEX operating under the auspices of the World Climate Research Program. She is contributing Author to the IPCC-AR6, Working Group I, Chapter: Regional Climate Atlas. Kugiumtzis Dimitris  |
Dimitris Kugiumtzis has BSc in Mathematics at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh), MSc and PhD at the Department of Informatics, University of Oslo, and he is Associate Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, AUTh, since September 2013 (in Engineering Faculty since 2001). He was Lecturer B at the Department of Statistics, University of Glasgow, UK (2000-2001) and guest scientist (PostDoc) at the Max-Planck-Institute for Physics of Complex Systems, Dresden, Germany (1998-1999). He has participated in a number of funded research projects and to-date he is co-ordinating a national research program (Aristeia II) and participates in two other national research programs. He has organized a number of sessions in international conferences and participated in over 40 international and 20 national conferences, in some of these giving invited talks. He has published over 50 journal papers and many national and international proceedings papers and has h-index=16 (Scopus). He has acted as evaluator in European and national research programs, and he is regular referee for many international journals. He has supervised 4 PhD theses, 3 others are in progress, and many MSc theses. Dr. Georgios Makris holds degrees in Mathematics from the Aristotle University, in Applied Computer Science from the University of Macedonia, MSc in WebScience and MSc in Theoretical Informatics and Control, both from the Mathematics Department of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He obtained his PhD on Chaos Cryptograpgy from the School of Mathematics of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2015. Marinos Vassilis  |
Dr. Vassilis Marinos is Associate Professor of Engineering Geology at School of Geology, Faculty of Sciences, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and the President of the IAEG National Group of Greece. He is Vice President (VP) elected of the International Association of Engineering Geology and the Environment (IAEG) for the region of Europe (2019-2022). He holds a Doctoral Degree from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), School of Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Division, an MSc with Distinction from Imperial College and a bachelor degree in Geology from the University of Athens. He has published 90 papers in international journals and international conferences. He has participated in 19 research contracts in the field of tunnelling, landslide and slope stability. His work has been cited more than 1060 times, while research results are included in the industry (design specifications of Athens Metro S.A., in geotechnical software suits and use in geotechnical design of large engineering works internationally). He has been awarded from the International Association of Engineering Geology (IAEG) with a runner-up certificate of the Richard Wolters Prize. His professional experience includes consulting services in geohazards-landslides risk assessment and microtunnel feasibility assessment along pipelines, on engineering-geological topics for major engineering projects as for dams on tunnel design and on engineering-geological, geotechnical and hydrogeological issues in the Metro works. |

Mazaris Antonios  |
Antonios Mazaris is a Assistant Professor at the Department of Ecology, School of Biology in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. His research interest lies in the field of Ecology and Conservation Biology. More specifically, he is interested in analyzing the spatial pattern of ecological systems and the environmental drivers of those patterns, with a focus on how scale affects the observed patterns and associations. For this research agenda he mainly relies on the construction and analysis of ecological models, as well as on the statistical analysis of real life ecological patterns. Since 2004, his research has led to more than 50 articles in peer-reviewed journals, 80 presentations at International and National Conferences and 10 book chapters. So far he has participated in 20 research projects funded by National and International sources. |

Moyssiadis Chronis  |
Chronis Moysiadis received his diploma from the School of Mathematics, Faculty of Sciences of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, in 1972 and his PhD, on Optimization of Experimental Designs, from the same School in 1981, under the supervision of Prof. Stratis Kounias. He is working in the School of Mathematics for more than 40 years, the last 15 as Professor of Mathematical and Applied Statistics. He had taught several courses in mathematics, probability and statistics, Combinatorics and Graph Theory for the undergraduate or graduate students of School of Mathematics and some other schools or Faculties as Agriculture, Forestry, Geology, Medicine and in training programs for secondary education’s teachers, as well. Chronis Moyssiadis has written more than 50 articles in international journals, in conference proceedings or in other journals. There are more than 120 references in his scientific work. He is author or co-author of 10 textbooks and one dictionary of statistical terminology. He has supervised 10 PhD Theses and 20 Msc Theses. He was scientific coordinator of 4 research projects and participated in a lot of conferences and seminars. He served as Head of the School of Mathematics for 6 years, as vice director of the Greek Statistical Institute for 4 years and as vice president of the Hellenic Mathematical Society for 6 years. |

Nouskalis George  |
George Nouskalis is Assistant Professor in Law School of Aristotle University and has been working as a Supreme Court defense lawyer in the Thessaloniki since 1992. He completed his under- and post-graduate studies in the Law School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He got a first class degree in both levels of study, getting at the same time an honorary scholarship. He wrote a dissertation on the "Criminal protection of computer software" (ed. SAKKOULA, THESSALONIKI 2003) and a monograph “Criminal protection of personal data” (ed. SAKKOULAS, THESSALONIKI 2005). He has also participated in writing the monograph on Hellas for the International Encyclopaedia of Cyber Law, part VII, on Computer Related Crime. Papadimitriou Konstantinos |
Theophilos Papadimitriou received the Diploma degree in Mathematics from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, and the Master degree (D.E.A. A.R.A.V.I.S - Automatique, Robotique, Algorithmique, Vision, Image, Signale) from the University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis, France, both in 1996 and the Ph.D. degree from the Polytechnic School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2000 (Thesis title: “Motion Parameters Estimation on an Image Sequence and Application on Frame Segmentation"). In 2001, he joined the Department of Economics, Democritus University of Thrace, Komotini, Greece, where, he served as a Lecturer (2002-2008), Assistant Professor (2008-2013), Associate Professor (2013-2018). Currently he holds the position of Professor in the same department. Dr. Papadimitriou co-authored more than 80 journal papers, conference papers and book chapters combined. Pavlides Spyros |
Spyros B. Pavlides is Emeritus Professor of Geology (Neotectonics and Palaeoseismology) at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki educated in Natural Sciences (1973), in Geology (1978) and PhD in Neotectonics (1985). He followed many short training courses in France (Paris VI), UK, USA (California-Nevada), Japan, China and in Greece (Seismological Observatory AUTH). He has studied Active Faults and Earthquake ground deformation in several places of Greece, in Albania, Bulgaria, Western Anatolia (Turkey), Italy, China and Taiwan. His scientific interest is in, Active Tectonics and Seismotectonics, especially on the broader Aegean Geodynamics, Volcanotectonics of Santorini Volcano, Structural Geology, Palaeoseismology with emphasis in Archaeoseimology and Seismic Hazard Analysis. He also studies History of Geosciences. He published more than 150 scientific papers, among them 75 in International Journals (peer review) and two Textbooks in “Neotectonics” (1986, by Pavlides & Moundrakis, in Greek, 136pp) and “Earthquake Geology” (2003, University Studio Press, in Greek, 378pp, New Edition 2016, 473pp), as well as “PAN-GAIA” (2007, S. Pytharoulis Ioannis  |
Regional Climate, Climate change, Climate modeling, Physical Climatology, Model EvaluationDr. Ioannis Pytharoulis is an Associate Professor in the Department of Meteorology and Climatology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (DMC/AUTH) in Greece where he has been a faculty member since 2006. He is an expert on the use, development and validation of various atmospheric numerical models such as WRF and SKIRON/Eta. He is responsible for the operational numerical weather forecasts of DMC/AUTH (http://meteo.geo.auth.gr) and their verification. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (1994), an M.Sc. in Weather, Climate and Modelling (1995) and a Ph.D. in Meteorology (2000) from the Department of Meteorology of the University of Reading (United Kingdom) through a Marie Curie/TMR fellowship of the European Union. He has been employed as a Lecturer and an Assistant Professor in DMC/AUTH (taught 8 undergraduate & 5 postgraduate courses), a researcher in the Atmospheric Modelling and Weather Forecasting Group of the Physics Department of the University of Athens, a meteorologist in the Numerical Weather Prediction Division of the Hellenic National Meteorological Service, a laboratory professor at the Technological Educational Institute of Piraeus (Greece) and the Department of Meteorology of the University of Reading (UK) and a weather forecaster and scientific consultant in the private sector. He has participated in 28 projects from various funding authorities (European Commission, Greece, U.S.A., Germany and United Kingdom), having been the principal investigator in three (3) of them. He has been proposal evaluator for NOAA and NSF (USA), ELIDEK, State Scholarships Foundation, GRNET (Greece), controller of deliverables for GSRT and article reviewer for 25 international journals. He has also served as a guest editor in a special issue of the international journal Climate. Spyrou George |
George Spyrou received his BSc on Physics from University of Athens. He holds an MSc on Medical Physics from University of Patras and a second MSc on Bioinformatics from the Department of Biology, University of Athens. During his PhD on Medical Physics from University of Patras (Prof. George Panayiotakis’ lab), he worked on algorithms and simulations applied to breast cancer imaging. At 1994 he joined as Research Associate the Medical Imaging Research Group of Prof. George Tzanakos’ Lab in the Physics Department of University of Athens, working in the project of the small animal PET prototype design and construction. Since 1998 Spyrou collaborates with the Informatics Laboratory of the Academy of Athens (Prof. Panos Ligomenides’ Lab) in the project "Hippocrates-mst" applying medical image analysis techniques and developing decision support systems for the early detection and diagnosis of breast cancer. Since 2001, he is working as Research Scientist at the Biomedical Research Foundation of the Academy of Athens (BRFAA). For more than 10 years he had been assigned as the Head of the Department of Informatics and New Technologies at BRFAA. Spyrou was also in the initial Administration team of the BRFAA High Processing Computing Facility. Nowadays, George Spyrou leads his own research group in the Systems Biology Center at BRFAA and teaches modeling and simulation methods applied in Biomedicine as well as Systems Bioinformatics at postgraduate level. Up to now, he has authored over 120 scientific publications in peer reviewed journals and international conferences proceedings. |

Tsadiras Athanasios  |
Dr. Athanasios Tsadiras is currently an associate professor in the Department of Economics at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. In 2002 he completed his postdoctoral studies on Decision Making, Prediction and Strategic Programming, at the Department of Applied Informatics at the University of Macedonia, Thessaloniki, Greece, supported by a scholarship from the Greek National Scholarships Foundation. He received the PhD degree in Artificial Intelligence (Fuzzy Cognitive Maps and Certainty Neurons) from the Department of Applied Informatics at the University of Macedonia, Thessaloniki, Greece, in 1997, supported by a scholarship from the Greek National Scholarships Foundation. In 1992, he received his MSc Degree in Applied Artificial Intelligence from the Department of Computing Science, University of Aberdeen, Scotland, U.K under a scholarship from ‘European Social Funds’. His research interests include fuzzy logic, neural networks, decision support systems, e-commerce and enterprise information systems. Tsokas Grigorios  |
Prof. Grigorios N. Tsokas is currently Director of the Laboratory of Exploration Geophysics of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) and Vice President of the International Society for Archaeological Prospection (ISAP). He holds a diploma in Physics (1979,AUTH), a M.Sc. in Exploration Geophysics (1980,Leeds University, U.K.) and a Doctorate in Geophysics (1985,AUTH). He has been trained as a resident geophysical programmer by the Western Geophysical Company, Hounslow-London (1988), on behalf of the Greek Public Petroleum Company (currently Hellenic Petroleum). He was visiting researcher at York University, U.K., (1990) and visiting professor at the Colorado School of Mines, U.S.A., (1994). He has conducted more than 300 surveys in archaeological sites in Greece and abroad. He is the author of more than 180 papers (about 120 in peer-reviewed ISI journals) and awarded several international distinctions (best paper of the year 1997 in electrical methods, invited papers, invited speaker, 3 best paper awards in international conferences, editor of journals and member of international committees). He is currently member of the National committee handling the legacy data of the investigations for hydrocarbon resources. Also, he participated in the committees carrying out the international call for bidders for the non-exclusive seismic data acquisition offshore western and southern Greece, for shale gas and oil prospects in Greece and for granting the licenses for the hydrocarbon concessions in Ioannina, Patraikos gulf and Katakolon. |

Christos Zikopoulos is assistant professor at the Department of Economics at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (A.U.Th.), Greece, where he teaches at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
